Effective Ways to Teach Children to Read

Learning to read has many benefits that have a positive impact on children’s development. This activity can improve children’s language and communication skills. Therefore, the culture of reading must be accustomed from an early age.

Reading can also expand creativity and stimulate children’s imagination. Even in today’s digital era, a love for reading still needs to be instilled in the baby. Because a lot of information will be obtained by fond of reading. However, it must be understood that children can truly read when they are 6 years old.

Don’t let the child feel depressed, so they don’t want to read. Here we will tell you how to teach children to read effectively!

Attract them to reading

Nothing like reading to a child to encourage reading and make him interested in learning to read. If you read to your child and get him to be passionate about what you are reading, he will immediately be curious to learn to read more and more stories for himself.

Interspersed with Games

Reading practice from books or ordinary writing can cause children’s boredom. Mother can work around this by providing a distraction using games. Use tools such as puzzles or flashcards of letters arranged in a row to form words. This will provide a variety of learning methods so that the atmosphere becomes more fun and less monotonous.

Read the Whole Word

The child will initially spell out a few letters until they become whole words. This step is a natural way that children do so they can read words correctly. Mothers also need to supervise so that their children do not experience reading errors. Train him to read the whole word until it is completely fluent, and then continue by teaching him to read short sentences.

One word at a time

Don’t give up many words to read at one time. This learning method will make it difficult for children to read. It’s best to give one word at a time. If the baby is proficient in reading the word, then change to another word.

Create a reading schedule

An easy way to teach children to read at home is to make a reading schedule. By making a special schedule for reading, the culture of reading at home becomes thicker. It doesn’t take long; the important thing is enough to get used to the culture of reading and to use the opportunity to get closer to children. If the reading has become a routine since childhood, children tend to continue to do it until they are older.

Introduce capital letters

If the child already knows and memorizes lowercase letters, teach them uppercase or capital letters. This will make it easier for children when they read storybooks where there are capital letters too. Initially, maybe the child is still not used to capital letters. Your child will easily read books or whatever by knowing both types of letters. The child will be familiar with all letters in 2 shapes, small and capital.

 Create a happy learning atmosphere

After finding the right study time, you also need to create a happy learning atmosphere. How to? You can study in a fresh place, such as on the back porch while being surrounded by green trees and the breeze.

Mothers also don’t need to be too tense and fierce when teaching their children. Even though the child can quickly become able, this method will make him feel afraid and depressed so that it can become a burden on his mind. He will think studying with his Mother is an unpleasant time. It’s better to teach children while occasionally asking them to joke, laugh, and often praise when they succeed in understanding what you teach.

Conclusion

Also, slowly practice reading speed in children until they reach a better fluency level than before. It doesn’t need to be perfect, of course, as long as there is an increase from day to day, that is enough to show how to teach children to read that is used by parents effectively.

No need to set a target too high on your little one, enjoy the learning process which will also be your quality time with your child. The most important thing is that children enjoy the learning process because this process will continue throughout their life.
